I've always liked this exhibit as it has a scenic pool in the foreground and a lot of the fence-line is hidden by the forested backdrop. The zoo has had quite a bit of success breeding cats in recent years (Sumatran Tigers and Clouded Leopards) and there are currently 9 tigers at the zoo. That total includes 3 cubs that were just born and are off-exhibit, while the rest of the tigers can be seen in a variety of enclosures in the rotational section called Asian Forest Sanctuary. The tiger in this photo gives a good indication of the size of the habitat, and not all of the exhibit is shown in the image.
From a press release issued from the zoo this week:
Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is home to three Sumatran tigers in addition to Jaya, Malosi and the newborn cubs. Bima, 4, Dumai, 2, and Kali, 1, all were born at the zoo to Jaya. Berani, a 2-year-old Malayan tiger, also lives at the zoo.
