great indian hornbill, Reid Park Zoo

Wow, how long have they had this? The last time I went (years ago) they only had wrinkled hornbills.

Great shot!

Ever since the Flight Connection aviary replaced the old main aviary (maybe 6-8 years?). There are two screened off aviaries in the back of the walk-thru aviary. One has a pair of these great hornbills and the other has a pair of trumpeter hornbills with their three (now large) chicks that hatched last year.

Are you sure, because on my last visit the Flight Connection wasn't very old and I remember trumpeter hornbills and either wreathed or wrinkled hornbills. I swear I would have remembered if it was great hornbills.

Yes, I'm sure. This photo was actually taken a couple years ago. Here's the info from the docent animal info pack they recently printed for us: GREAT INDIAN HORNBILL (Buceros bicornis). Received Reid Park Zoo January 2005 (male) and July 2005 (female).

My last visit was either 2003 or 2004 but Flight Connection was definitely open by then...
