The white rhino exhibit is not affiliated with Expedition Tanzania as it was in existence for many years before the elephant complex was built, but the rhino exhibit was expanded while the elephant habitat took shape behind the scenes. When I first visited the zoo in 2011 the rhino exhibit was not as impressive as it was on my return visit in 2015 as the yard was expanded and finished in 2012...when Expedition Tanzania also opened to the public.
A photo from 2011 (showing green fence hiding construction):
It is essentially an old (and excellent) exhibit that received a minor modification on one end. During the construction phase that end was marked off, as Snowleopard's photo shows. The end that was temporarily closed (the west end) used to be fencing like the rest of the back. The new construction has artificial cliff walls to match the ones that already existed on the north side. The new area also features a shallow downward slope (whereas previously it was flat). The new area is directly in front of the new path down to Expedition Tanzania, so that path offers viewing of the rhino exhibit from a different vantage point. In fact I believe that is where this photo was taken.
