weird aviary

Here is a walk through aviary - with doors at either end - but all of the birds inside the aviary are in separate cages. Why do visitors have to go through doors to an enclosed area if the only thing that could potentially escape through the doors are fellow visitors? I don't get it.

According to my father, this exhibit also had free flight birds. He believes they had pheasants here, but he could not remember what was free flying. He also remembers a type of baboon being housed here, but that was in the 80's.
