More and more Tayras are popping up in American zoos and does anyone know where they all came from? Milwaukee County, Alexandria, Rio Grande and several others all showcase the species these days but 5 years ago the idea of seeing a Tayra in a U.S. zoo was practically a daydream.
I saw tayras in Milwaukee back in the eighties, they have a great deal of expierence with the species. Here in Mexico, only zoomat in chiapas has bred tayras, though various zoos exhibit them.

Milwaukee's tayras are no longer on display in the Small Mammals Building. They have been moved off-display in the Big Cat Country Building for more space, where one can only get brief glimpses of them when keepers open the door to enter the area.

Cincinnati Has them in Night Hunters. They have had young in past years. so, some zoos could be getting the offspring from Cincinnati.If I recall they are the only US zoo with a Breeding Pair.
I have seen tyras in both usa and latin american zoos and they are constantly in motion. I wonder if they ever burn out. The behavior is common in both mongooses and mustelids.
