My first visit to the zoo was November 1997 and they had them then. I am not sure how long before that, but my impression was that the koala house was a new exhibit.
@DavidBrownThe exhibit still stands as of May 2024, it will be a part of the new Australia remodel. When it was last open to the public it did not have Koalas, but still had Tree Kangaroo, the back area had: the tank had Rainbow fish, an exhibit for carpet python, a mixed exhibit with side neck turtles and Queens Alexandra parrots.
