The wing of the house seen to the right has the indoor accommodation for Brazilian Tapirs, Capybara and Common Hippos.

The house is now badly outdated and many antelope species have recently moved to the African Savannah paddock to free up paddock space for the new elephant house to be constructed.

Hmm... can't say I'd really noticed until now. Not sure on that one.

I may be wrong, but I think this line of black plastic poles is a last remainder of an attempt to mix rock hyraxes with the elephants few years back. A group of hyraxes was held in a small exhibit inside the house without day light. One spring, they added several lines of hot wire around the outside paddock and released the group. You can imagine what happened - no hot wire could keep the hyraxes inside, they are excellent climbers and immediatelly escaped. The whole summer, they lived free on the zoo gound, and were catched before the next winter.
