The Birdhouse opened in 2001 and features 3 extremely well-designed exhibits plus a lagoon with Caribbean flamingos outside. Penguin Coast has 3 species within its icy walls; Savanna Camp has birds from the arid zones of Africa and South America; and this photo shows the jungle-themed Asian Trek.
The original Birdhouse made its debut with the opening of the zoo in 1974, and it housed an incredible 600 birds of 150 species. There was an incredible 80 exhibits at that time and the bird collection was hugely impressive, but as has been the norm all over the world there are now many fewer birds at the zoo but they are located in much more natural-looking habitats.
