Was this a brand-new exhibit that opened in 2012 or was the aviary already in place? Just to confirm, did the zoo actually open 3 new animal exhibits in 2012? Red River Hog, King Vulture and Sichuan Takin, plus the Hasbro Children's play area? Also, is there anything new planned for 2013 or is the next big addition the New England zone that is scheduled to open in 2014 with North American River Otters, Porcupines, Canadian Lynx, Wild Turkey, Great Horned Owl, etc.? Roger Williams is a small zoo but a very good one and it is nice to see it recover from the fact that the idea of a new Polar Bear exhibit was abandoned.
the indoor holding and aviary are new for 2012. Takin, Vulture and RRH were all new species for 2012. not sure what will happen now that the Director is stepping/stepped down. there haven't been any announcements regarding new exhibits/species for 2013. the new children's area is a huge hit. not sure if the new england animals will still be added. there is no definitive answer on their website. maybe you can ask them via facebook.
Gulo gulo answered SL's question very well, and it is true that they opened 3 new animal exhibits in 2012. Takin opened in June, King Vultures in July, and RRH's I belive in late August or early September. I don't know anything of what is to happen in 2013, but if they keep all their plans at the moment, Vampire Bats, a walk-thru Lorikeet aviary, venemous snakes, Moose, and Tigers are still yet to come.
