This enclosure has a sign in front declaring it to be the bull elephant exhibit, and the photo was taken on July 15th, 2012, long after the new 4-acre Asian Elephant Preserve opened to the public.
It will be demolished because they have to walk the elephants down to this enclosure every morning during the summer. Demonstrations will stop now or after this summer because the AZA requires protected contact now.
Doc the new bull can be seen at the new Elephant Preserve where they have a Bull yard for him, he also seems to be getting to know the other elephants and getting along, of course with a barrier in between them. I've always said after they build the new Preserve they should use the old Exhibit space to build an aquarium building. Either way the zoo has been making several upgrades and wants to keep doing so with increased attendance year after year.
Oh good to know about Doc. I saw him yesterday and didn't think it was Indy because he didn't have any caps on his tusks. I hope they update their signage with a plaque for him because they still have one for Indy.
