Social Building - Fossa Exhibit

July 15th, 2012.
I feel like this exhibit used to have vervet monkeys. Anyway, it's quite spacious for one fossa. I was glad to see him since the female, in her own exhibit, was hiding in her hammock.

Do they still have Patas Monkeys ?

Yes the zoo still has Patas Monkeys, in fact they have had several born in the last couple of years. The Monkeys are on the opposite side of the building in the largest exhibit where the Siamangs once lived and before that the Squirrel Monkeys.

Actually this exhibit housed the Mandrills, unfortunately the large Male passed away a few years ago and the rest of the troop of females was phased out. The fossas are actually in the process of being bred, they have been rotating them in the two exhibits to get them use to each others scent. They have however had Vervet Monkeys in the past, and most recently they were located next to this exhibit where the Ruffed Lemurs are now.

Those female Mandrills now reside at our home zoo in Cleveland !
