AAAAHHH - I found it! (The Connecticut king cheetah that is). This place looks awesome - I cannot believe I have not heard of it and it has no thread on ZooChat! (It took some deep digging on the internet for me to get this). Although their website just lists and shows regular cheetah, their Facebook page does reveal they have a king cheetah named Mona Lisa.
I was just wondering why king cheetahs are not commonly displayed in captivity? Is it because they are too hard for zoos to get? Or is it because zoos would just rather exhibit spotted cheetahs? I think its sad that so few zoos exhibit such a beautiful animal.
I am not entirely sure, but I have a hunch the reason is not so much that it is too hard but rather that it is too expensive. (Basically you have to buy them by making a gigantic donation to DeWildt Cheetah Centre in South Africa. I do not know how accurate this is, but I once heard a zoo professional make an off-the-cuff remark that king cheetahs cost a hundred thousand dollars. Take it with a grain of salt - in fact I may not even be remembering the dollar amount correctly, but I think it was something like that.)
Zooish, I have heard the Singapore Zoo cheetahs were those coming into conflict with humans and livestock in Nambia, have you heard anything about this aspect of the animal transfer from Namibia to Singapore?
