king cheetah

Female king cheetah, summer 2000.
Is it true that there are no records of Cheetahs killing people in the wild? In De Wildt most visitors go up to them and stroke them in the presence of their handlers.

Yes I am sure it is true. Cheetahs are quite timid and would run away from people in the wild. In captivity they can be quite tractable. In India, the moguls used them for hunting and all of their trained cats were wild caught (due to the difficulty of breeding them in captivity - only one litter was born out of the hundreds used in India). Even many AZA zoos, which generally have a strict hands off policy for large carnivores, allow their keepers to work directly with cheetahs.

Zooish, I have heard the Singapore Zoo cheetahs were those coming into conflict with humans and livestock in Nambia, have you heard anything about this aspect of the animal transfer from Namibia to Singapore?

I've not heard about that. The Zoo has had a few groups of cheetahs imported over the years, and most came from South Africa.

The king cheetah was acquired from De Wildt.

I'm not sure that they'd be a good mix with children. I think that Cheetahs have attacked herd boys in Africa.
