Blowing it up and trying to look at the sign, I can give you three. bearded barbet, wattled starling and Reichenow's weaver.

I'll be walking down there today to get a list together.

I think also white headed lapwing ;)

My camera batteries died on me, and that's what I use to put species lists together, so I'll have to hold of until tomorrow.

Hi djaeon, you seem to know a lot about the san diego zoo, do you work there? the reason i ask is, because i have bought a package for april, to visit san diego, and the zoo is my priority, i have been looking at the san diego zoo in videos, pictures and articles for years, i'm fascinated with this zoo, one my passions besides animals, and zoological institutions, is plants, so i think it will rank pretty high on my list due to its extensive botanical collection.

I really wanted to go for the new exihbit opening, but i guess i will have to miss it, its too far out for my plans. In your opinion is the zoo still big enough for an all day visit, even without all the ungulate enclosures that they have taken away, and without the new mix exihbit open yet, i'm really worry that i picked a bad time to visit San Diego Zoo.

The only Big zoos that i have visited for reference, are Bronx zoo and Berlin zoo, i was missing San diego, so hopefully i walk out happy i know i will but i'm a little more worry about my significant other, she loved Bronx zoo, and her favorite animal park is DAK, yet again she is allways let down by our local zoo Miami Metrozoo, i'm not too crazy about it myself, but i guess is also due to the fact that i have been there already about 50 times. Please let me know your opinion in this matter.
take care
Danny

Hi there. Yes, I do work there, and absolutely love it:) Your visit is scheduled unfortunately 1 month before the opening of Elephant odyssey, but I still think the Zoo offers a good days visit. I'd recommend visiting the Polar Bears, Tigers & Orangs earlier in the morning, then walk the rest of the zoo at your leisure. The bus tour offers a pretty good overview also, if your so inclined.
Another thing I would recommend is visiting the Wild Animal Park if you're here an extra day. April should be a good time for that as the Summer heat won't be there yet.

Thank you for your quick reply, i will take your advice, one question?, is the elephant odyssey area opening in march? i really thought it would be a lot longer, some of the other members were talking about as late as july, so if it is march that is a very different time frame, one i might be able to meet, since i have yet to purchase the travel package, i was planing on going on the last week of april, so a few weeks more, shouldn't be a problem. I'm really looking foward, to the large aviaries, the historic areas of the zoo, the plants collection, and many enclosures, that most members here probably dismiss as out of date, also the modern areas like forest tales, and the polar bear plunge, do interest me a lot. How big is the reptile house compared to the one in the bronx? Have you ever been to the bronx zoo?, theirs is really neat, and sadly miami's metrozoo does not have a reptile house. The videos that i have seen show a very large collection and many enclosures in the san diego zoo reptile area, could you tell me how big is it compared to the average zoo.
thank you
Danny

Elephant Odyssey is supposed to be opening the last week of May. May 23 is the latest date I've heard.
The only zoos I've had the pleasure of visiting so far are the San Diego Zoo & Wild Animal Park. I plan on remedying that soon, but as it is, I don't have a frame of reference for comparing reptile collections. I think the reptile house, along with reptile mesa and the mini-reptiles houses hold a great collection. You can find more info about that here: San Diego Zoo Exhibit: Reptile House and Mesa
