The enclosure is mainly all concrete, and yet the San Diego polar bear exhibit might arguably be the second best habitat of its kind in North America for this species of bear. The Detroit Zoo's Arctic Ring of Life set of habitats is so far ahead of the other almost 40 polar bear exhibits on the continent that the other enclosures pale in comparison.
It is still one of the largest Polar Bear exhibits in the world and has a 130,00 gallon pool. Plus the bears have a mud hole which I saw them using once, so it is most definitely one of the better Polar Bear exhibits in the country and in my opinion is a great exhibit.
