It is incredibly frustrating that only the San Diego Zoo has been able to have success with breeding sun bears in North America. The world's least known bear needs to thrive in captivity for long-term survival, but as of yet no other zoo can replicate San Diego's excellent track record.
 
I remember when this exhibit first opened, the entire concrete hillside was covered with grass. Boy, that didn't last long!
