You think that this is the best exhibit in Elephant Odyssey? What about the dustbowl with a horse in it? Seriously though, the condor aviary seems to be the # 1 enclosure in this $45 million set of hodgepodge habitats, and these birds probably have as much space as the lions.
They only have the one fake tree in the middle and two rock formations on each side. It's not that bad, since wild California Condors mainly use the rocky hillsides of mountains to rest.
Well on a positive note, this might be the most realistic California Condor exhibit in the world, it looks just like a big desert, i remember a San Diego Zoo dvd that showed where this birds lived and it looks just like it to me, without the mammoth's tusks, but maybe if you go back 10 000 years..............i think it could win an award for realism, i'm serious, no joke, and i also agree that it might just be the best enclosure in the whole exhibit, not that there is that much to compare it with, but out of what i have seen in the pics, and when i was there, the aviary structure looked impressive, massive, once again, it all could look a lot better, if they included lot's of plants for the outside area of this enclosures.
Considering there are two California Condor enclosures in the entire world (one in Santa Barbara being built I believe, they also have Channel Islands Fox, which is a great landmark for them) the Condor Ridge at the park is far better than this, the whole sets of exhibits really immerse you into Southern California, especially with the mountains they placed in the background. *hint of sarcasm* It is true though.
There are far more California Condor enclosures in the entire world (LA, Oregon's breeding center, World Center for Birds of Prey, SDWAP's Condorminiums). There are however currently only four exhibits (SDZoo, SDWAP, Santa Barbara, Chapultapec) and eventually to be condor exhibits at the Oregon Zoo, and the World Center for Birds of Prey (they've exhibited them before, but they are currently off-exhibit while a new display is built)
