Well, the Cincinnati Zoo mixed Rock Hyraxes with Patas Monkeys in the late 90s/ early 2000s, so it wouldn't necessarily suprise me if they were mixed. Even stranger than that is the fact that the enclosure was in their Jungle Trails exhibit complex. Neither of of those species are rainforest species, though they do live in the same region in the wild. That cannot be said for this mix
Cape Rock Hyrax/Gelada and Cape Rock Hyrax/Nubian Ibex make sense, but Nubian Ibex/Gelada do not overlap in range in the wild. Perhaps they come closer than these two, but still...

Walia's would be great--but impossible. Having an ecologically similar, closely related species exhibited with geladas and hyraxes in a beautiful and accurate replication of the Ethiopian highlands is a thousand times more valuable than this lazy menagerie of convenience.

I do actually agree, but as you say - this is no doubt convenient, and real world requirements sometimes trump idealism.
I'd be interested to see if any visitors leave specifically believing these live in the same area in the wild - I've genuinely no idea if the average visitor would interpret a mixed exhibit in that way, but I suspect that unless it were specifically called 'Madagascar Forest' or something they probably wouldn't even consider it.
I'm over a decade out of date with my personal San Diego experience - is this part of a themed area?

I believe this is located in the area now called "Urban Jungle"
I'll leave it to you to decide if that constitutes a "themed" area...I understand other species now exhibited nearby include Indian rhinos, giraffes and donkeys......
