I loved this gharial exhibit. Does anyone know why San Diego stopped keeping the species, or if this exhibit is still intact after they flattened the buildings on Reptile Mesa?
They stopped keeping this species because their male died and the best interests of the SSP were served by sending their lone female to Fort Worth. I can't 100% confirm this exhibit's continued presence but I imagine it is in tact since SD has applied for an import permit with USFWS for ten gharial from Madras Crocodile Bank.
Fort Worth? I thought she was sent to a different zoo in the mid-west? National Zoo has a lone female too, but they keep her because they are afraid of it being injured during transportation.
