This is the massive new exhibit complex, opened in May 2009, that is themed to interpreting Southern California during the Pleistocene through habitats for animals that are living examples of the descendants of extinct species from 12,000 years ago.

@geomorph: What is your opinion of this jaguar enclosure? How does it stack up in comparison to Woodland Park's masterful Jaguar Cove?

snowleopard, haha! There is little comparison! Jaguar exhibits are far superior at Woodland Park, Jacksonville, and Palm Beach!

Seattle's exhibit may have cost more and bear more resemblance to a Brazilian rainforest but let us not forget that jaguars are adaptable creatures, as most big cats are, and are found in all kinds of environments in South and Central America, including the pampas of North Argentina and Paraguay. So, provided the San Diego Zoo’s plan was to create a realistic replica of the jaguar’s natural environment, they did a very good job indeed.

How many Jag's do San Diego Zoo/WAP still/now have? I know they have a pair plus 1.1 offspring but how many do they have off-show?
