Chinese Goral Exhibits

July 26th, 2011.
These just look awful, very sterile habitats.

I agree 100%! The number of subpar enclosures at San Diego Zoo is somewhat cancelled out by the amazing collection, outdoor environment and fantastic weather...but why doesn't the zoo bulldoze/overhaul these crap exhibits?

They plan to by 2016, but they will probably be replaced by more sterile, dirt pens.

Is this entire "canyon" zone going to be renovated in time for the zoo's 100th anniversary? I'd heard that many of the big cats would receive new habitats but will all of the hoofstock in this area (not that there are many) also get brand-new exhibits?

Haha, you think that they're actually going to keep hoofstock. Since when, in this day and age, are zoos keeping hoofstock?

The Area Formerly Known as Dog and Cat Canyon, will receive a facelift as "Africa Rocks" after Outback is built. Not much has been made public about this, but it might possibly contain African Penguins (or they may be destined for another part of the zoo, this was unclear)
