Do they grow anything on these man made futeristic looking baobab trees? if the dishes had been a little deeper they could have had a nice arial garden to make them look a bit greener. Alao any one know what the "doors" at the base are for?

There is some sort of plant growing out of the tops of the structures. You can see it at the top. Eventually they will supposedly become much larger and more visible.

Thanks mweb08 I did wonder if they were planted in the top but i couldn't decide for sure. It should look rather good in time then.

Unfortunately that is what they said when the exhibit opened back in 2009...and as you can see, they have yet to grow.

Looking at the structures I presume thay are metal, in which case they will heat up in summer and could in effect burn off the roots of what ever is planted, I suppose they are irragated, but again hot metal = hot water at the roots too.

They ned something really fast growing that will take on the shape of anything IE put domes of wire over the tops, and plant with evergreen Clamatis or passion Flower (Passsiflora Caerulea) which would drop edible orange fruits for the elephants to eat.

By the looks of it, it looks like some Prostrate acacia in some large planting containers. I don't think they water them all either, nor is there any irrigation in EO.
