July 26th, 2011. This long row of aviaries is practically off-exhibit, as it is adjacent to the large Polar Rim area of the zoo and yet barely anyone ever wanders down the steep path to see what is in the enclosures.
July 26th, 2011. This long row of aviaries is practically off-exhibit, as it is adjacent to the large Polar Rim area of the zoo and yet barely anyone ever wanders down the steep path to see what is in the enclosures.
I didn't take photos of the signs on the aviaries so I have no idea, but San Diego Zoo seems to have every conceivable bird species in existence so I'm sure that someone on ZooChat will know.
The birds were very engaging when I was there -- probably due to the lack of traffic. The Kagu came directly to the front of its enclosure and inspected me, as did some of the tragopans. The Dollarbird family was active and very noisy, and the Rufous-crowned Roller was perched in direct sunlight. Such a nice array of birds.
