is Mang Mountain Viper the name used by the zoo? Mangshan Pit Viper is a much cooler-sounding name! (Shan means "mountain")

I think that they have switched over to Mangshan Pit Viper, but for some reason "Mang Mountain Viper" seems cooler to me so that is what I went with. Maybe it is the alliteration.

Did you get anywhere near Mang Mountain when you were in China, Chlidonias?

not really. Mang Shan is in Hunan province. I did go to Guizhou which is the next-door province.
