Bawean deer (Hyelaphus kuhli) are a very interesting species, San Diego Zoo kind of neglected their Bawean deer (Hyelaphus kuhli) program when they started getting into Calamian deer (Hyelaphus calamianensis), but now their Calamian deer (Hyelaphus calamianensis) along with every other Calamian deer (Hyelaphus calamianensis) in AZA are no longer breeding and haven't bred since 2005, there arent even any Calamian deer (Hyelaphus calamianensis) in EAZA and an even more worry some issue is that there are hardly any in captivity in the Philippines, I'd like to be optimistic about their survival and conservation and all, but I am not sure that would be appropriate, does anyone know how InSitu conservation is working out for them ? or if there are any in the private sector (I ask because not too long ago ISIS listed 11.19 at San Diego Zoo but I didn't see them on my last visit) ?

Going back to Bawean deer (Hyelaphus kuhli), I feel a little more optimistic about their survival because from what I heard Poznan Zoo has a nice breeding group, as do several southeast asian zoos (eg. Jakarta, Surabaya, Melaka, Taiping, Negara etc.), from what I heard on another thread, San Diego Zoo sent their Bawean deer (Hyelaphus kuhli) into the private sector, does anybody know where they went ?
