I know right? I'd love to see them in more zoos, including San Diego. They could have moved them to Lost Forest near the Babirusa. Why did they get rid of them?
Unfortunately only 1 AZA zoo currently keeps Bornean bearded pigs (Sus barbatus barbatus), that zoo is Gladys Porter Zoo, I saw and photographed those animals on my trip there, they actually got their herd from the private sector
As far as I know, besides San Diego Zoo and Gladys Porter Zoo, other AZA zoos that kept them in the past include
Philadelphia Zoo
San Diego Wild Animal Park
Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo
Lowry Park Zoo
and
Brookfield Zoo
I personally dont agree with the Pig, Hippo, and Peccary TAG's decision to phase them out, as they are more endangered than Red river hogs (Potamochoerus porcus) and Common warthog (Phacochoerus africanus). The other issue is that the EAZA Pig, Hippo, and Peccary TAG wants to phase them out as well, in fact as far as I understand it, some EAZA zoos castrated their males
Read this thread and you will see a more detailed argument as to why I think AZA should keep them around
Berlin has 1.1, London 2.6, and some at Munchen. Would be awesome to have them breeding again, but with the visayan warty pigs being commonplace I doubt it will happen
Man. Just like Tapirs. Why aren't there more tapirs in zoos? Like the Mountain Tapirs at the Los Angeles Zoo. You'd think a species as rare as those would be a lot more popular and would be in other zoos. What are other phase out species in zoos?

Munchen keeps 1.1, is Berlin really down to 1.1, I saw at least 5 2 years ago. This species will disappear from Europe soon, the last breeding took place a few years ago in Berlin, but that was only an incident....
