In my opinion, this is the best place in the country to see African Elephants. A huge habitat with a herd of 11. The exhibit offers fantastic views. Overall a stellar elephant exhibit.
No the African Bull is kept with the 11 other elephants. The Africans will soon have the Asian yard, and facilities to roam to, creating a 6-acre habitat.
I agree with Black Rhino in that the San Diego WAP is probably the best place to see elephants in North America. Disney's Animal Kingdom has a massive 7.5 acre yard but one can only see the elephants for about 45 seconds or so on the Kilimanjaro Safari tour. Once the WAP combines the yards to make at least 6 acres the herd will be able to expand their travels and roam a large tract of land, and they have more elephants than the huge North Carolina Zoo.
