Am I the only one who is uncomfortable with this odd car-wreck fashion in lion exhibit design? Have abandoned car wrecks out in the wilds of Africa been documented as being a favourite hang out spots for lions and other wildlife in the area?
This is while temples in tiger exhibits (see for instance Miami, DAK and Fuengirola) seem to bother a lot of people who think the exhibits have been humanized too much. Kind of strange if you ask me ...
I'm pleased that Denver Zoo didn't place a car wreck in their excellent Predator Ridge, which I saw recently. San Diego Wild Animal Park has received good reviews for this new lion exhibit (it opened after I was there in 2003 so I've never seen it) but sadly they couldn't resist giving it a bit of a junkyard impression.
