Others have asked why I favor DAK's over this park's Savannah area. I just felt more immersed into Africa at DAK. A much more natural look there and landscaping.
When animals are in immense habitats like these and supposedly are "free-roaming," are birds trained to stay within the exhibit area? Or can they leave the exhibit while still staying on the zoo grounds? That being said, is there ever a time where birds leave the zoo and come back? I know some zoos have ducks that migrate and pass through the park while migrating, but what about the Safari Park's crane species? Can they fly out if they wanted to?
If I'm not mistaken I think the vultures and cranes have there wings clipped to keep them in the enclosures.....At least I think that's what I remember the guide telling us on the tour. Otherwise the native ducks,hummingbirds, etc...just hang around.
