From the photos I've seen, the Safari Park looks ten times better than the zoo. I don't know why everyone thinks the zoo is so amazing with this brilliant facility in the same city.

You'd love the city of San Diego, as with the zoo, safari park, SeaWorld and Birch Aquarium there are 4 notable institutions in the same general area, although the safari park is a half hour drive and located in the city of Escondido.
@KCZooFan - there are some people who feel that way. My cousin in L.A. loves the Safari Park - I think it is his favorite zoological park and he usually goes down at least once a year. But he has not been to the San Diego Zoo in many years, does not like it anywhere near as much and I would be surprised if he ever goes back.
Most ZooChatters appreciate both because they are very different experiences and the diversity of species at the zoo cannot be rivaled anywhere in America (including the Safari Park).

A bit of a shame that they no longer do much with their current black rhino breeding pair on the premises. Since and due to the new project with southern white rhino as surrogate mums for northern white rhino embryo transfer project / AI the blacks are now of show.
I also heard the rumour that the current pair has had sufficient offspring and is thus over-represented in the US population.
Correct me if I am wrong if you will (if and when you know more or other)!
