So, so sad. If anyone had seen fit to get enough animals from Uganda or DRC 40 years ago and kept them on the same basis as their Southern cousins this animal would quite likely be on its way to safety.
The Northern bull "Ben" was a resident at London Zoo for thirty years from 1955, before belatedly and unsuccessfully being sent to Dvur Kralove. He was quite possibly the first rhinoceros I ever saw.
As the old maxim goes, for evil to triumph it is only necessary for good men to do nothing- or in this case too little, too late.
I'm so sad that I'll probably never get too see this species in the flesh unless they start breeding in africa . Unless I get too san diego in the next 30 years, or is it unlikely that they will still be around then?

^ah, thats pushed it right up on my priority list. maybe within the next 10 years maybe would be realistic (got too knock germany off 1st, amazon river dolphin ) i can hope that they will be there within that time. hopefully.
Ah, thanks for the correction Ituri. I thought that the male had died recently, but I guess it was the other female? In any case, they will hopefully be around for several more years but it looks like the Northern White Rhino has a definite expiration date when these go.
