12/15/11 - Bats Outdoor

Another positive attraction to the park just shows how superior its direction is to the zoo. Aside from the laughable photo op outside, the themeing here is excellent outside and inside the building. The building is just a single room with a bat exhibit inside, but the range of materials and level of detail surpasses anything the zoo has done in their buildings (Elephant barn and Panda Trex box of concrete.) Everything in the realm of the viewer is fantastic. The bat exhibit itself is simply mock rock with trees planted behind it, but it is very successful in bringing the bats very close to the viewer and incorporating foliage. Nothing spectacular, just good exhibitry. Do not be fooled by the photos, the area is lit up well.

What is the "laughable photo op" that you are referring to? Is it the sign? Also, what is the black orb under the sign?

What species of bats are they exhibiting?

Thanks for the report on the exhibit.

There are more pics in the gallery, one with a bat statue that you can put your head into for photos. (is there a term for those? i never understood those) The black orb is just an interactive object that you can spin, I think there is water involved in. Idk there was always people using it when I was there and I didn't think much of it.

The black orb's a Ball Fountain. Its a large stone ball that floats and spins using water pumped from the base.
