Prionodon linsang

Hardly the perfect photo but such a special species. Not expecting to see another of these any time soon.

Beautiful species! Would love to have seen them! Thanks

Woah, I never knew we had these before! Another great species of a diminishing collection. Where is this? The nursery area?

Yeah this animal was housed at the Animal Care Center around the corner on the north side. Last time I saw him the other exhibits were occupied by Tahitian Blue Lories and Queensland Koalas.

I remember it being next to the koalas.

This was one of the most special for me of all the new species I saw in San Diego (which were many and various), for the simple reason that most of the others I was aware there was a chance of seeing when I went. This species I had no idea was even at the park, let alone on show and in full (if inactive) view. The most pleasant of surprises.

I like those kind of surprises too!

Tahitian Lories aren't even on display either anymore. After the Animal Care Center, they used to be at the zoo in the Australasia section. Now they are no longer on display. Its a shame because I loved watching those birds and I always marveled at their blue coloration. Anyone know what happened to them? Moved off-exhibit for breeding maybe?

Isis lists one female still at San Diego.
