I wonder if San Diegan deer and antelope enthusiasts realise how blessed they are? Gerenuk have been long gone from Europe, and I don't suppose they'll be back anytime soon.
Gerenuk are a beautiful species. However here in the states they are not uncommon in our zoos. Out of the zoos I've been to, they have been in San Diego Zoo, San Diego Wild Animal Park, Disneys Wild animal kingdom,Los Angeles zoo,Miami metro zoo, White Oak Conservation, and those are just the ones I can remember at the moment. Personally as much as I love to see them I would love to have some of those zoos trade them for some beira,zebra duiker,jentinks duiker,dibatag,etc ....Not to sound ungrateful but when the same antelopes are in every zoo you visit they lose some of the specialness...In Europe you seem to have a much greater diversity of hoofstock?
