I've found that picture in the book A World of animals-The San Diego zoo and WAP.

Unfortunately, i've found no informations in it about the black rhinos in the east africa exhibit.

They were in the East Africa exhibit as recently as 1998 by my figuring.

There yard is a bit south and totally on its own, I wouldn't call it part of the East Africa field exhibit. What I meant was, they were in the East Africa field exhibit up till 1998

Interesting, I do not recall seeing black rhinos in the main field exhibit. However I am sure I must have at some point, considering I have been visiting the park since the first summer it opened.

I do remember that Twiga Overlook in the background, which is now gone.

This was picture from an old book about the place when it was called the “Wild Animal Park”, I got as a gift.
Today the separate exhibit is now where the Nikita Rhino Rescue Center is which focuses on artificial insemination breeding of southern white rhinos which succeed with two births in hopes that the rhinos at the center would be surrogate mothers for embryo transplant of the Northern White Rhino.

The Black Rhinos are now back living in the field exhibits, a female named Aria lives in the Central Africa Field Exhibit and the male Kendi lives in the South Africa Field Exhibit.
