Mangshan pitviper

Mangshan pitviper (Protobothrops mangshanensis).

How did you get away with taking a photograph? If what I have been told by @LaughingDove is accurate, all photography is banned in the pavilion

If I remember correctly, there is a sign on the ground once you pass the salamander enclosures which states that you are allowed to take photo's from that point on. So you are allowed to take photos of the Mangshan pitviper and the Impressed tortoises in the pavilion.

I hope you are correct as these are species I would rather like to photograph when I visit the collection!
