Many ZooChatters seem to be single males who scorn children's zoos as if they are diseased zones...haha...but since I have had kids of my own I've cherished a wonderful kiddie section at a zoo. It is great to see my children run around and have fun, it encourages more families to visit their local zoo, and I can sometimes take off and explore a zoo alone while my wife sits and admires the chaos within a kiddie zone. The new San Francisco attractions look to be fantastic, and I particularly like this Banyan Tree experience although the ice-themed play area is also very impressive.
Hopefully this is the start of a real comeback for a zoo that really needs one. Did your visit leave you with some hope that better days may be on the way Zooplantman?
In fact I was pleasantly surprised. There are a number of enjoyable experiences there. The pitch black aiye aiye experience is unique. The large linked lemur cages with lemurs running from large cage to large cage through the shifts is pretty nifty... very active animals. The new play area will be a great introduction to natural habitats for children and parents. And more is being planned
