This appeared sometime during the past couple of months. It's on the second floor of the Primate Discovery Center catty-corner to the siamangs.
It should be noted that this occupies the spot that used to overlook the mandrill exhibit. With this in place and the new glass paneling, the mandrills are nearly impossible to see unless they're on their hill.
When I broached the subject with one of the keepers, he mentioned that a new event space was wanted and it was placed here because specifically because management wanted to block it off. Apparently people kept "dropping" things into the exhibit, and they were afraid somebody would eventually drop a baby.
My suggestion: Turn it into an interpretive center. Bring out a lemur or two from time to time. Maybe one of the siamangs. This is one of the things that San Diego does so well -- bringing the animals to you.
