Bear Grottos

The multi-million dollar expansion of Grizzly Gulch has helped the brown bears, but the polar bears still have one of these awful concrete pits. To be honest probably 75% of the San Francisco Zoo is below average, and that is rather shocking as the city is one of the most popular tourist destinations in North America.

This photo provides an overview of the row of bear grottoes and there are 4 exhibits along this stretch. If the one on the far right has become part of Grizzly Gulch, that leaves 3 grottoes that have held a variety of inhabitants over the decades. Apparently all there is these days is a single, elderly polar bear and Mexican Grey Wolves will have a new habitat here in 2016. Does anyone know if one of the grottoes will be utilized for a wolf exhibit or will there be two grottoes (perhaps with a wall removed) for the wolves?
