Margay Exhibit

July 23rd, 2011.
What is a tigrina?

A small cat also known as an oncilla. Looks very similar to a margay - the average person would not know the difference. I saw it (the oncilla) here as well. It was the only one on exhibit in the USA, though there were a couple at a private small cat breeder in north San Diego County. (She has since retired and all her cats are now gone). There are no longer any oncillas in the USA, but you can see them at a few European zoos.

Thanks for that AD, I hadn't heard that name before. It sounds a bit like a hybrid name, like liger or tigon, and I was trying to figure out what it could be a hybrid of!

I have seen Oncilla at Prague Zoo.
