That looks fantastic. Adelaide zoo has obviously come a long way.

@zooman: the entire Asian rainforest section at the Adelaide Zoo is only a few years old, and includes orangutans, sumatran tigers, malayan tapirs, langurs, gibbons and other primates and is quite impressive overall. With giant pandas arriving this year, and the new multi-million dollar Envirodome as well, this zoo keeps on heading in right direction.

How big are all of Australias four major city Zoos (Melbourne, Taronga, Adelaide & Perth.)
Is the order Taronga, Melbourne, Perth and then Adelaide from biggest to smallest.

Adelaide is almost a third the size of Melbourne. No wonder that they don't keep elephants anymore.

Size Comparisons: the Bronx Zoo is about 7 times larger than the Taronga Zoo, which is regarded as the best in Australia and is indeed quite an impressive collection. The North Carolina Zoo has an antelope/rhino paddock that is almost double the size of the entire Adelaide Zoo, and that is only one exhibit! I suppose it is all about quality and not quantity...

All of Melbourne Zoo can fit into Werribee's savanah which has girraffe, zebra, ostrich and white rhino.

Was this the zoo that an orang recently escaped from? How did it manage?

Karta (orangutan) short circuited the electrical wires surrounding her enclosure using a stick, but having climbed out of the exhibit returned just minutes later! :)
