Is there anyone out there that will update ZooChatters on this new addition to San Diego SeaWorld? I personally don't care about the coaster, but I'm intrigued about the animal additions (such as bat rays).
Great, thanks. If you have a chance to ask someone while at SeaWorld I'm wondering why they didn't try and build an actual manta ray exhibit. It may be that the animals are not obtainable. Have a great trip to San Diego.

I would imagine that the husbandry requirements for manta rays (large water volumes, diet, etc...) would be quite costly when compared to that of shallows dwelling species such as bat rays and cownose rays. Ive seen earlier concept sketches for the Manta rollercoaster in Orlando that referred to the ride as "The Ray". I guess "Manta" sounded cooler.
The manta area doesn't have alot of animals in the area just a big touch tank with bat rays and a small aqaurium with a species of sturgeon,perch and more bat rays. The roller coaster is different from the Florida one. Your in seats in san Diego in Florida your back goes up like your flying. The reason why they don't have mantas is the lady said they wanted a touch tank and it wouldn't work with a manta ray and she also said that there hard to obtain and with its special diet its expessive to keep. And they appartently don't do well in captivity like the great white shark but if Georgia aquarium can do it I rest to sure seaworld could if they wanted to.

The Manta was a awesome roller coaster. loved are visit to seaworld first time vistor for me and my gf. loved the walrus & emperor Penguins.
San Diego as a whole is a beautiful city. with its nice climate and culture. i remembered what i missed and thats why i went back to southern california such a beautiful part of the country. The San Diego Zoo is the best in the United states for its great staff and animal collections. never seen anything like it. I hope someday me and my gf will be able to go back as soon as the get the Tasmanian Devils. I would like to see it.
also if i would have known about the coaster train that runs up and down the coastline we would've stopped in LA and did the zoo up there. I would've liked to seen LAIR,Mountain Tapirs,Ibexes,Markhors,channel island fox, Japenese serow. oh well maybe in the future thks again David Brown
