Glancing through the series of photos of this brand new exhibit I've been surprised at how "open" the larger tiger enclosure is. It seems as if most of the surrounding trees are fenced off, and so there is not as much foliage and coverage as many other tiger exhibits in other zoos. Do the Malayan and Amur tigers already rotate between the different-sized exhibits?

Shade and Rotation

There is shade provided by a few trees in the enclosure, as well as a corner of the indoor viewing building cut out for a place to lay down. That is also where the enrichment working wall is. The problem is that growing trees and other plants in a prairie is very difficult. It will take 2-3 years, like with the gorilla exhibit for the lushness to show up.

Right now, the tigers are not rotated. The Malayan brothers have acclimated well, but the two Amur sisters are not doing as well. They prefer to stay inside, one more than the other. Staff is still trying to get them comfortable. There is no timetable for the rotation to begin.
