I was still confused about this exhibit even after seeing your other photo. But now at this angle and the glass in the middle, I see the tortoises can never cascade down.

In the middle where the lighting is shining through. There's no glass panel to prevent the tortoises from getting out?

Oh, that is a door to their outdoor exhibit, which they have full access of.

Sorry -- I meant between the top panel that says their name on it and the poles that elevate it (the whole semi circular structure), is there a glass window that goes all the way around so the tortoises can't slide down the poles?

Oh, I am dumb. No, that is completly open, I don't really know why they don't fall through that. It doesn't seem to be a very practical exhibit.

Oh wow. Well, they probably just never have wanted to make the effort to try to escape. Although, I'd be curious to hear a time that they did.

The poles work just like a cattle guard crossing - just as cows feel the uneven ground and won't step/cross, the tortoises behave the same way.

You guys have it all wrong. This is clearly a roller coaster track, and Sedgwick is to be commended on beating Busch Gardens and DAK on having the world's first roller coaster tortoise viewing. :D
