Pride Of The Plains - Red River Hog Exhibit

July 16th, 2010.
It occurs to me that the warthogs might be a better visual fit in this exhibit, and the red river hogs a better fit in the lusher shadier current warthog and slender horned gazelle exhibit. Both look nice!

They will eventually be switched again after the completion of some new exhibits - the river hogs will be closer to the gorillas.

It's a pity to see Red River Hogs, animals confined to areas with dense vegetation, being displayed on such an open terrain. I agree with Geomorph that this enclosure would be better suited for Warthogs. In my opinion there are way to many exhibits of this type for Red River Hogs!

While for the most part I agree, this exhibit does have a very nice stream for them to swim in. They were in the water on both my visits.

Unfortunately I suspect a lot of the blame for this can lie with the destructive hogs themselves - plants of any kind below fully mature trees do not last well in RRH exhibits!
