Nile Hippo Enclosure

July 16th, 2010.
This is an old exhibit (late 1970's?) but does anyone know if it was the very first zoo habitat for Nile hippos with underwater viewing? Was it the first in North America or worldwide?

I used to work with someone who worked at Sedgwick when it first opened. He said that the hippo exhibit was like a giant flush toilet. You pull a lever, the water flushes out, and it refills again.

Yes that is the sole pool which has underwater viewing underneath the walkway. Your observation is also correct, the pool is fairly small.
