Do you happen to know the subspecies? If I remember correctly, these are a different subspecies from the ones usually found in captivity (that being the Eastern Kiang).

Yeah, these specimens don't look to be Eastern kiang (Equus kiang holdereri), the coat coloring does not look to be an Eastern kiang, but at the same time another subspecies other than Eastern seems unlikely, so is it possible that they are Kiang X some other Equus ssp. ?
I know that Shadow Nursery got theirs from the San Diego Wild Animal Park and the Wild Animal Park did have Eastern kiangs, plus how would Don Shadow source a subspecies other than Eastern ?
Well they have Mongolian Wild Ass which isn't the subspecies of Onager usually found in both US and European zoos so it's possible. Now I'm no expert but is it possible that these could be the Onagers and he mistook them for Kiangs?

The Mongolian wild ass supprises me, I have no idea where they could have sourced them ?
I am pretty sure that the animals in the photo are Kiangs, the morphology looks kiang like

I have no clue but powerful people can make things very surprising happen. I mean, no one thought we'd be seeing tarsier in captivity in a western zoo again yet the RSCC has several now.
And you're right, these can't be the Onagers. Here's a pic of one from their Flickr: [ame="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shadow_nursery/4344600112/in/photostream/"]Khulan (Mongolian Wild Ass) | Flickr - Photo Sharing![/ame]
Perhaps there's a photo of the Kiangs somewhere on there, I believe I saw one before and that's where I saw that they weren't Easterns.
