from wikipedia:

"The Altai wapiti is a subspecies of Cervus canadensis (named "elk" or "wapiti" in North America) found in the forest hills of Southern Siberia, Northwestern Mongolia, and Northern Xinjiang province of China. It is different from the Tian Shan Wapiti in being smaller and paler in color.

It has also been classified as Cervus elaphus sibirica,[2] and is also known as the Altai maral,[3] central maral deer,[4] Siberian red deer,[2] and Maral.[5][6]"

I knew they were called Altai maral but I thought the ord Maral by itself only applied to the Caspian red deer (Cervus elaphus maral)
