The cave-like structure is more than they get in most aquariums and in terms of light both Asian giant salamanders have very poor eyesight so I doubt it bothers them much. A bit more space would've been nice, but I guess the temporary nature of this section (it's in the special exhibit section where things change with some regularity) limits it somewhat.

Thanks for the explanation. Sadly these giants hardly get the space they need (at least from what I've seen). A lot of places I've seen them barely leave them the room to turn around.
