We really loved this exhibit probably the best Asian Elephant exhibit we have ever been to.Would probably say the best aspect is being able to see the elephants from multiple vantage points. You could either look down on them from atop the asia trail and suspension bridge or up close from the Elephant Outpost. Its also great for the elephants with its huge area to graze and something we have never seen before an exercise track.

Not wishing to denigrate the National Zoo's new elephant exhibit, and I recognise that the photograph does not show the entire enclosure, huge is not an adjective I would use to describe it. When one looks at some of the elephant enclosures in the UK, it is rather small by comparison, and although grassy, there does not appear to be much going on in the area for the animals, or does this photograph not do it justice?
Yes, with the price tag I was hoping they would have done more for the elephants. They have no scratching posts or mud wallows. Not much to report in the enrichment department either. It seems like a manicured golf course with pools and a massive barn.
It should be noted that this exhibit expands beyond what is seen in this photo and there is no way to get a shot of the entire yard.I would also like to add that as Jax said work is currently under way on phase two.
